Lez Miz - Fresh from Manchester Pride!Lez Miz September 2007
So anyways, I was in Manchester last weekend for the pride celebrations. First time there and I'd been told to expect a common as muck crowd - I certainly wasn't disappointed. I wasn't two minutes out of the train station until I'd stumbled upon the first Gregg's. There's one on every street corner up there, which is just as well as I am rather partial to a steak bake.
When I got to Canal Street itself, and the surounding area, I certainly had my eyes opened. It was wall-to-wall mullets, sports tops and faded denim - and that was just the women! The Candy Bar must have been empty last weekend - I'll tell you that much. I was shocked to begin with but before the weekend was out I was in the Funky Crop Shop getting my ironical spikey 'do. I've been told I have a look of Hazel Dean about me now. How thrilling is that?!?
So, what were my highlights? Well, The Gossip on the main stage of course who rocked the crowd, despite it being obvious that about 95% of them only knew the one song. (I’m talking about the crowd, not the band ). Two other rather unfortunate incidents also stick out - both involving over-amorous gals and their idols. Firstly, Rowetta lived to regret her invitation for dancers to come on stage at Via Fossa when one woman, who was clearly old enough to know better, wouldn't take no for an answer. Siobhan Donaghy faced a similar encounter at Popstarz when an eager fan crawled across the stage and launched herself at Siobhan's crotch. Not so much stage-diving as muff-diving. Girls - you're letting the side down!
