This seaside surf town is a very beautiful part of France. Unfortunately for us it rained constantly so we had to entertain ourselves in the bars and cafes!
There are a couple of gay bars here - L'Excuse on rue de Helder and Chrome further up in the town.
L'Excuse is a girls bar and Chrome is for the gay boys about town. We were a mixed crowd and our boy friends much preferred the laid back style and music of L'excuse as did we. Nice friendly staff with a nice atmosphere and crowd. Doesn't open its doors til about 10 ish. Don't let the exterior of this bar put you off as it is much nicer inside.
Be prepared to pay a little over the top for your drinks in Biarritz unless you go to a local French bar off the beaten track a bit.
Clubs - Le Cuveaux, up near Chrome gets a lively, up for it, crowd.
Drives up to Anglet and Bayonne were very picturesque. We came away from Biarritz very pickled and needing another holiday!
Recommend Taitu for Pizza and nice local food/drink not to mention the eye candy at the bar.

I've also been to L'Excuse recently - what a great mixed bar. Don't let the barmaid put you off when you first go there - her bark's far worse than her bite (ahem) and we got on with her so well on the second night that she even gave us a free round of shots. Or maybe that was to encourage us to stay since we were spending so much? Either way, lovely gesture. And it worked.
I was also accosted by a fabulous creature with spikey hair and a black apron style dress on the first night - look out for her. A real character. Pack your dictionary though as she doesn't speak a word of English.
Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for the crazy Julian Clary lookalike and his long-suffering dog who roams the streets of Biarittz - his bite's worse than his bark. |
